Hi everyone Please find attached the results of our Water Quality Monitoring, Chemical Analysis and Macroinvertebrate Sampling for October, 2022. Relevant to the results are the following observations:

  1. The water quality is reasonably consistent across the three catchments

  2. The higher Phosphate and Ammonia Nitrogen readings in some waterways reflects people using fertilisers for their gardens, and also the effect of industrial users of the waterways such as farmers and nurseries

  3. Where there is a differential in results arising from landlocked waterways, the differences often arise from the wind pushing water and contaminants around and across the lake system i.e. the sampling point may not be the actual point at which the contamination occurred

  4. The macroinvertebrate samples indicate sound water quality; there were a few different animals in this lot of samples. The numbers of animals however was generally lower than normal, as was the number of different species (biodiversity) found in some streams.

In other news the Royal Spoonbills are now nesting in the yard of the Ampol Service Station located off Heathwood Drive, Upper Coomera. I suggest you do not stand under the nests looking upward – you will be splattered. In platypus news it appears the deep pool in the Coomera River, visible from the Coomera Lodge Hotel railing, has now been naturally filled with rock, and platypus living there would have been forced downstream. I did spot one platypus late afternoon just upstream from the John Muntz bridge; perhaps it was one of the escapees from further upstream. In the meantime if you have seen something worth sharing let me know, so that we can share with others via the website. Always be vigilant about caring for those animals who depend greatly on responsible human action for their survival. Kind regards Steven Gill

A HUGE Thank you to Steve Gill from Coomera River Catchment Association for mentoring our Kombumerri Rangers on water quality monitoring, including sampling macroinvertebrates at Guanaba Creek last Tues 21st June

Just became aware of this page and want to say thanks to all involved in the planting project on the old farm near Regatta Waters. Can’t believe how big some of those trees are now. As a local from Graywillow Blvd, I’m happy to get involved in the future. Great job guys!!!
