Hi everyone
Attached are the results of our WQM efforts for the month of July, 2025.
Many thanks to young Helen and Ross and Brian for their great efforts in supporting the Water Quality Monitoring program
Overall, the results were quite pleasing:
Water temperatures were as high as they have ever been for winter – it is some time since we saw water temperature readings fall below 10degrees C. This can only mean that winter temperatures on average are rising
Water health as observed along the waterways indicates quite reasonable health except for Yaun Creek which is constantly under attack from developmental activities
Water levels, despite recent rainfall, are relatively low, meaning that we need additional rain coming into spring
Chemical levels were quite good, with only a few moderately raised levels of phosphates; ammonia nitrogen readings were down, particularly in Waterhen Lake which never ceases to amaze in its efforts to cope with pollutive runoff
As a general observation, there is not a lot of visible fish life, particularly of mullet which will commence their upstream journey over the next few weeks in the Coomera River, followed hopefully by herring which bred in their millions a couple of years ago
If you are out and about, and keeping rubbish out of our waterways, thank you for your efforts. Our shared environment needs all the help it can get.
Kind regards
Steven Gill
