December 2025: Chemical, Water Quality and Macroinvertebrate Analysis

Hi everyone,

Please find attached our WQM results for December, 2025. I thank Kim and Brian for their invaluable assistance in monitoring over the month of December.

In relation to the results please find the following explanation:

  • In respect of water temperature, the results for December were lower than is normal due to the lower daily temperature for December. This does not include today which was the highest for me, being 38 degrees centigrade.

  • Because it is saltwater month, the temperature is higher than in freshwater, making the early day temperature at Waterhen Lake much lower than in saltwater. Note that at Waterhen Lake we had at least two bird deaths from what appeared to be avian botulism, a virulent disease which must be avoided at any cost.  Avian botulism arises from birds feeding in mud polluted with the waste of other birds: ibis are a classic victim

  • In respect of chemical analyses,  there was an elevated reading of phosphates at Waterhen Lake and the Coomera River weir; both are to be expected at predictable times of the year. Ammonia nitrogen readings, which are reflection of the management of human and animal waste, are at manageable levels.

Overall water quality is looking good. If you have encountered anything any different please let me know.

We do have our first planting for 2026 on the 14th February, 2026 (lots of scones and cup cakes) and  I will be thrilled to see you all on this occasion.

Kindest regards to you all

Steven Gill

Just became aware of this page and want to say thanks to all involved in the planting project on the old farm near Regatta Waters. Can’t believe how big some of those trees are now. As a local from Graywillow Blvd, I’m happy to get involved in the future. Great job guys!!!
